Following office moves in London and Dubai over the summer, the firm was able to help a number of community organisations. In London, furniture was delivered free of charge to nine charities including 348 chairs and 118 desks and tables! In Dubai, 5 tons of office furniture were delivered to Somaliland to furnish 2 new schools which have just been built and a maternity clinic. "thank you ... on behalf of everyone at the Bureau for your generous donation of your old office furniture. You have transformed our staff room and seating throughout the office for both our clients and staff to enjoy. We are sincerely grateful to have such wonderful partners". Mohamed Merali, Brent CAB "on behalf of people in Somalia and Somaliland, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks to Clyde and Co and can assure you that the items will be put to very good use". Clyde & Co embraces opportunity and entrepreneurialism and, with the London office move to St Botolph's, we have created a community project which conveys these values. The Clyde & Co Art Awards is a 3-year community project. The aim of this project is to encourage and nurture new talent, by supporting art students and showcasing their work as they graduate from three of the leading art schools and move into life as professional artists. This is a critical juncture in their careers as practising artists, especially because their first experiences will almost certainly be within the context of an economically uncertain world. For 2011-2012, we are partnering with Central St Martins, Chelsea and Wimbledon art schools In addition to awarding a cash prize to each artist selected, Clyde & Co is also offering each student pro bono legal support and business mentoring during the year that their work is on display. This support is seen by the graduates and their art schools as one of the most valuable aspects of the project. Many of our staff have volunteered to participate with this project, either acting as mentors to the artists or providing specific legal advice and training. |
In May 2011, the Management Board of Clyde & Co approved a policy that up to 50 hours of firm-approved pro bono activities will be credited towards fee-earners' billable targets. These hours will be treated as chargeable work in this context. This allowance will apply to all fee earners globally and is in line with the 50 hours pro bono policy which was recently approved for Clyde & Co's US offices. Outside the US, this is one of the highest pro bono allowances. |
